You guyss, I can’t believe I finally did it! I planned and decorated a Harry Potter themed costume party for little one. (“Imposing my own ideologies” LOL). If you know me, you know I’m a big potterhead so this meant a lot to me! I am watching the Half-Blood prince while I type this and to be honest I don’t think I ever thought I would be able to do this (this party) especially with two kids. Alhamdulillah I was able to do it! Especially with some help from my little sis and loved ones.
We still kept it small by doing a mini get together with our family at home…but just ended up going a bit crazy with the decor, cuz…HARRY POTTERR!!!! 😀 #nerdattack
ATTIRE – I asked the adults to come in any character of Harry Potter or wearing any of the four house colours they liked (red/yellow/green/blue). And the kids to come wearing white shirt and dark pants or skirts – to help make them look like Hogwarts students. They were going to be sorted into their houses by a talking sorting hat! (I actually managed to get one on time.)
THE PARTY – It started with some fun in “Olivander’s Wands” photobooth area and then people were invited to “The Three Broomsticks” to grab some food and potions 😉 #whynot.
Afterwards, children lined up to be sorted into their houses by the sorting hat. Heck, we also had some grown ups sorted into houses too! After the sorting hat chose them into their specific house, they were given a tie and a wand, along with a sheet of basic magic spells! 🙂 There were games planned for the kids to take part in, including ‘Pin the scar on Harry’ and ‘Quidditch Deconstructed’ but alas due to the hot weather outside (there was an extreme heat alert 🙁 ), we had to skip that. However, everyone cozied up to watch a Wizard create magic instead! Little witches and wizards took part in casting spells and making magic while everyone enjoyed being entertained. The day ended with one of the wizards casting a spell that made a white pigeon appear!(I know I know…wish it was an owl). Nevertheless, everyone got a chance to spend a little time with it and children also got some fun shaped balloon animals to take with them along with the things in their loot bags. After everyone left our little Hogwarts, it almost just felt like a dream.
THANK YOU’s and END OF DAY THOUGHTS
Thankfully everyone enjoyed the party at Hogwarts. I’m just so excited to say that the wizard we hired said – “this is the best Harry Potter party I have ever been at. I feel like I’m at Hogwarts!” XD eeek! One of our guests included my cousin’s grandfather, who also said a sweet little thank you speech with words that made us all very emotional and our hearts so full of love. His words included him saying that he had never experienced something like this before and he would remember this joy forever. He then made a little prayer for us. <3
I thought mentioning these were important because I was a little worried before, thinking if I was going too far with the decor or if I was wasting. But grandpa’s words made me realize that I was really glad I was able to do it. Somehow this party didn’t just make us all happy, it touched someone’s heart too. I’m thankful we were able to do that.
Without further ado…here are the pics! Check out the captions to see how we made some of them. I attached some Amazon links to make it easy for you guys to find and buy the items. But you can also buy some of them in other costume stores too. 🙂
